THE WIZARD OF OZ (1939)
The ultimate family film is such an original marvel that it's in its own category. So much wonder, terror (monkeys!) and awe leaves audiences spellbound by its technicolor magic. Keep in mind, color was almost a "special effect" at the time. Ironically, my favorite sequence is the first ten minutes in black and white. Garland singing "Over the Rainbow" is heartbreaking and timeless. Still, the journey down the yellow brink road is a story for the ages.
