PLANET OF THE APES (1968)
The one and only original sci-fi classic. Brilliant and imaginative with an ending for the history books. For the time, there was nothing like it. As a child, it terrified me. Particular credit must go to composer Jerry Goldsmith. His atonal approach was groundbreaking and unforgettable, elevating the film tremendously. Without it, the film would lose much of its other-worldly and creepy atmosphere. The make-up effects still hold up today and personally I much prefer them to the recent CGI apes.
Director: Franklin J. Schaffner
