THE BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (1946) 4 stars

A French fantasy film that is unlike anything else. It's a stunningly beautiful fairy tale where the special effects are mainly in camera and have an innocent charm that is both creepy and child-like. A truly poetic film that composer, Phillip Glass later scored as an opera. Astonishing stuff.
